Animal Feed

Overview

Feed mills run continuously and dusty, and the bagged product is heavy and handled hard. Like rice milling, the conveyor challenge is less about hygiene and more about surviving an abrasive atmosphere while carrying dense sacks reliably shift after shift.

Lines are built around bagged handling from the bagger through to the truck: belt runs to move sacks away from bagging, inclines to reach palletising or loading height, and roller sections where sacks accumulate. Where the mill also handles crates or returnable containers, chain conveyor sections are added for those.

Where we work on the line

  • Bagging discharge and take-away
  • Sack sealing and check weighing
  • Incline transfer to palletising
  • Accumulation and buffering
  • Palletising and stretch wrapping feeds
  • Truck loading and dispatch

Frequently asked questions

What conveyor suits bagged animal feed?

Belt conveyors for the main runs, sized to fully support the sack, with cleated belts for inclines. Roller conveyors handle accumulation before palletising, and flexible conveyors are used for loading trucks, since they extend into the vehicle.

How does dust affect conveyor life?

Dust is the main cause of premature failure in feed mills, because it works into bearings and drives. Sealed bearings and protected drive arrangements make the difference between a conveyor that lasts years and one that needs constant attention.

Can conveyors handle both bags and crates?

Different sections do. Bags run on belt and roller conveyors, while returnable crates and totes run on chain conveyor built for their base and weight. Both connect at palletising and dispatch, which is normally where the two flows meet.
